Family Education & Support is a HUGS Academy Program for Prevention
The book Alcoholics Anonymous outlines a true picture of addiction and it’s family dynamics. It points out the following:
“An illness of this sort–and we have come to believe it an illness–involves those about us in a way no other human sickness can. If a person has cancer all are sorry for him and no one is angry or hurt. But not so with the alcoholic (addiction) illness, for with it there goes annihilation of all the things worth while in life. It engulfs all whose lives touch the sufferer’s. It brings misunderstanding, fierce resentment, financial insecurity, disgusted friends and employers, warped lives of blameless children, sad wives and parents– anyone can increase the list”. At HUGS we understand that addiction can take a heavy toll on any family and often times the family witness their love-ones fail in an attempt at rehab. The short-term detox or treatment experience that the insurance company authorizes, leaves both the patient and the family feeling hopeless. It leads to the question, Is Insurance-Backed Care The Best Option? We believe that it is not. According to the National Institute of Drug Abuse, research shows that an addicted person needs about 90 days in residential rehab for the best chance of lasting recovery. At HUGS, we offer evidence-based specialized residential programs of 90 to 120 days that includes detox if required.
HUGS Family Education & Support Program is geared to educate, expand self-awareness and knowledge of family dynamics as well as increase communication skills. It is designed to create a recovery foundation for you and your family or significant other. The program also educates and introduces family members to a variety of self-care supportive tools and provides resources for continuing care.
The program is scheduled on the first Monday evening of each month at 6:00 p.m. and participation is included in the cost of the client’s treatment.
